Razer Naga Review

Review: Razer Naga Gaming Mouse

The Razer Naga 2014 gaming mouse is a fully customizable gaming necessity for all MMO (massively multiplayer online) gamers. This mouse stands out in performance, usability, features and design due to the numerous options for customization with individual gamer preferences in mind.

Stats:

  • Connection: Wired
  • Grip Type: Palm
  • DPI: 100 - 8200
  • Laser Depth: 2.5mm
  • Length: 4.68", Width: 2.95", Height: 1.69"
  • Weight:135g/0.30 lb.

Overview:

This mouse has 19 buttons, perfect for playing any game that has multiple controls, as each button can be customized and different profiles for different games can be created. The grip is excellent, and it's heavy enough to be solid without being overly cumbersome during game play. It has a 7 ft. braided fiber cable that connects via USB port, and 8200 DPI (dots per inch) sensitivity. This means that each instant you move your hand, the mouse detects it and moves the pointer at a much faster rate than a normal mouse. It its also both Mac and PC compatible. At $80.00, the price is rather steep, but it's well worth it for a completely customized gaming experience for any game.

Pros:

  • You get complete customization, and that alone is worth it for players who generally use many buttons during gameplay.
  • Each button is easy to reach and it doesn't take long to get used to using the mouse buttons as opposed to the keyboard.
  • It could also be used for Photoshop or as shortcuts for other programs, not just games.
  • The grip is excellent and easy to hold on to, and it the mouse itself looks really cool with the LED lights on.

Cons:

  • It's expensive. Compared to other gaming mice, this one is on the pricier side.
  • It also cannot be weight adjusted, so players who like heavier mice are out of luck.
  • It does not come with a wireless option either and the cord is very long and needs to be wound up so it doesn't get caught on anything on the table I am playing on.
  • The back of the mouse is also rather bulky and takes time to get used to.

Features and Design:

The Razer Naga provides a plethora of exciting features and design aspects that truly enhance the overall gaming experience. I have found that despite its intimidating look, the Razer Naga maintains its standing as a high quality gaming mouse. It can be ordered for either right or left handed people and is known for its hypersensitive click ability. The 19 buttons include: 12 mechanical buttons that are laid out in grid format on the thumb side, two click buttons, the scroll wheel clicks and has tilt click (can be moved from up and down and from side to side, and two small buttons behind the scroll wheel. It has a 7 ft. braided fiber cable that connects via USB port, and the numbers, logo, and scroll wheel light up with adjustable green LED lights.

Customizing and Usability:

I use this mouse on a regular basis and have not encountered any problems. When I first plugged it into my computer, I was prompted to install the program Synapse 2.0 and make an account on the Razer website. Although I wasn't thrilled about having to make yet another account for a product, this one is actually nice because it syncs your products with the cloud and your profiles can be remembered no matter where you go. I was then able to go in and customize each button to do different things in my games. Here are a few usability perks that come with the Razer Naga:
  • The program Synapse 2.0 comes with the mouse to fully customize each aspect of the mouse
  • Unlimited profiles can be made and easily accessed via Cloud for different games
  • In-game MMO Configurator (the buttons can be adjusted during game play)
  • 8200 DPI 4G Laser Sensor, so each movement with the mouse is an extension of your own natural movements
  • The Razer Naga website can answer any questions or problems you may encounter, and the mouse comes with a 2 year warranty

Performance:

This mouse is sleek and smooth. It glides across any surface without issue and knows where your hand is going almost before you do. It comes with a 32-bit ARM processor, which means that it has a tiny computer in it that computes your movements remarkably fast. It's taken previous models and knocked them aside with its precision, comfort and complete control. One thing I will admit that I dislike is that for people with tiny wrists, such as myself, the angle of the back of the mouse is rather high and takes time to get used to. I can't really rest my hand on the table when I play since it's kind of bulky.

Conclusion:

Overall, this mouse is a prime example of what MMO players dream of. With its complete customization options for every button along with its easy grip and high-tech look, this mouse forges ahead in its quest to create the ultimate gaming experience. It can be tricky learning to access each of those buttons correctly on the fly, but with a little practice it becomes a complete extension of the hand. The price is a little steep, but well worth it for a product that will enhance hours of gameplay.
